The Gauteng Development League (GDL) and the Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL) resume this weekend, with matches on Saturday and Sunday, which will be streamed live on the SuperSport Schools App and on DStv Channel 216.
The Kaizer Chiefs u19 team, coached by former Chiefs’ player David Mathebula, recently won the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge. They entered the mid-year break at the end of June as the top team in the standings and continued their good work in the knockout tournament.
AmaKhosi takes on Rockefvs, a team that surprised many earlier this season by leading the table for several weeks. They’ve since fallen to third, with 29 points, trailing the leaders by 10 points. On paper, the clash favours Chiefs, but Rockefvs has proven resilient this season, and Chiefs will be wary of the challenge they pose.

The defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, occupy second place on the log with 31 points, trailing the Phefeni Glamour Boys by eight points, but they have three games in hand. If they win all of them, starting with their match against Randburg on Saturday, they could take over at the top.
Randburg poses a stern examination for ‘Downs. They’re in fifth place and coming off a semifinal defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the Engen Knockout Challenge. Sundowns were also eliminated in the Engen semifinals, bowing out after a penalty shootout loss against Kathorus Hyper Academy.
Kathorus impressed in the Engen Knockout Challenge and will be eager to build on that encouraging showing. They host Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA) at the Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong, East Rand.
Siwelele, who made the early running at the start of the GDL season, is now in fourth position and travels to Balfour Park to take on the 2025 GDL runner-up, Highlands Park, who are in 11th place.
At the lower end of the standings, Seven’s Academy props up the table with only four points after 14 matches. They tackle Joburg City, who are in 10th place, at the Alexandra Stadium.
On Sunday, the University of Pretoria (Tuks) challenges the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PMYF).
On the same day, the GWDL features a packed schedule.
Some players from the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies U17 Team were part of the Brazilians‘ squad that secured the girls’ title at the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge this past weekend at Wits Mark Park in Johannesburg. Banyana Ba Style will next turn their attention to the GWDL, which they lead with 51 points after 17 matches.
A quick calculation reveals that they’ve earned three points from every match, meaning they have won each of those 17 games. Sundowns takes on TS Galaxy Queens, one of the GWDL newcomers. They’re in eighth place, with 22 points after 17 matches, from seven wins, one draw, and nine defeats.
Second in the standings behind Sundowns are their Pretoria neighbours, Refilwe, who have impressively secured 43 points by winning 14 of their 17 matches. Curro Hazeldean, the home ground of Refilwe, will host their match against Black Diamonds Sports on Sunday.
Refilwe enters the game as the favourite. Black Diamonds Sports is tenth on the log with only 21 points.
JVW, in third place with 40 points, meets Edenvale at Jeppe Quondam.
