Weather impacts GDL fixtures as pace setters Kaizer Chiefs held to a draw

While the big Tshwane derby between Mamelodi Sundowns and Siwelele fell foul of the weather on Saturday, the Gauteng Development League (GDL) leaders, Kaizer Chiefs, weren’t able to take full advantage of that turn of events.

The Amakhosi faced Wits Juniors and came away with a point after a 1-1 draw.

Mojalefa Nyelele and Moeketse Monese starred for the University of Pretoria (Tuks) in a 2-0 win over Kathorus Hyper Academy, with Nyelele netting twice and  Monese assisting on both goals.

In a surprising turn of events, Seven’s Academy, the team in last place, defeated Panorama 2-1.

Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PMYF), founded by the head coach of Bafana Bafana, Pitso Mosimane, faced Jomo Cosmos, another team owned by a former Bafana Bafana coach, Jomo Sono. Neither offence could prise open the opposition’s defence, and the contest ended in a goalless draw.

Mduduzi Sindelo scored the only goal for Prestige Football Development Academy, but that was enough for Prestige to pick up all three points on offer after a 1-0 victory over the Africa School of Excellence. They did it the hard way, finishing the contest with 10 players after Abraham Mosweu received a red card for a serious foul.
