
Chelsey McGregor, Alanda Rademeyer, and Lenique Vogel rose to the top of the individual goal-scorers’ chart on Monday, the first day of the SASHOC National Week.
Their efforts put Western Province A, Boland A, and Northern Gauteng A in strong positions at the inter-provincial tournament, which runs until Saturday, 4 July and is being hosted by Hilton College, St Anne’s, and The Wykeham Collegiate.

The defending champions, Boland A, made a statement of intent with back-to-back wins.
Coach Chris Gerber‘s side began their title defence with a 4-1 win over Eastern Gauteng, which included a brace from Alanda Rademeyer, who scored in the seventh and 23rd minutes, before Anya Swanepoel and Sarah-Ellen Groenewald added the other two in the 32nd and 60th minutes.
Dané Smith pulled one goal back for Eastern Gauteng in the 56th minute, but it wasn’t enough to affect the outcome.
Boland A faced a sterner test when they went up against KZN Inland in the last match of the day. Rademeyer’s third-minute strike proved to be the difference as Boland claimed a 1-0 victory to go top of Pool A with six points.
She is one of three players with three goals to their name. The other two are McGregor and Vogel.
Northern Gauteng A is in second place, with one win from two outings. They lost 2-3 to KZN Inland A in their opening match. Twice, Northerns went ahead, but they were unable to hold onto their advantage.
After Lenique Vogel put Northern Gauteng ahead in the 19th minute, Siphokazi Mpontshane equalised for Inland A on the half-hour mark. Vogel restored Northern Gauteng A’s lead in the 44th minute, but Mpontshane again cancelled that out with a goal in the 50th minute.
Anna Schulze then netted the decisive goal for Inland A in the 59th minute.
Northern Gauteng A bounced back with a 3-0 win over Western Province B in their second outing. Vogel struck for the third time in the day, with her goal sandwiched between Aphelele Mbatsha and Chanette Jansen van Vuuren‘s goals in the first and final chukkas.
Eastern Province A is in third place in Pool A, courtesy of a 1-0 win over Western Province B in the morning, thanks to a Tatum Jacobs‘ goal. KZN Inland A occupies fourth with a record of one win and one loss.
Pool B
Western Province A forward Chelsey McGregor set Pool B alight with the first hat-trick of the tournament late on day one, leading her side to a 4-0 win over Border A.
The St Cyprian’s learner was on target as early as the fifth minute. She doubled Western Province A’s lead in the 25th minute and then grabbed her third three minutes later.
The ladies from Cape Town put an exclamation mark on their dominance with a fourth goal four minutes from full-time through Camryn Corner.
The victory catapulted Province to the top of Pool B, where they reside courtesy of a better goal difference than KwaZulu-Natal Coastal A and Southern Free State A.
Last year’s runners-up, Coastal A is in second place after a 3-0 win over Northern Gauteng B. Gabi Howarth opened the scoring in the final seconds of the first chukka, Jenna-Leigh Freese tacked on a second in the 23-minute mark, and Tayte Stewart rounded off the scoring in the final minute of the third chukka.
Southern Free State A was subjected to a more challenging outing. They had to come from behind to beat Southern Gauteng 2-1 after Emily Quinton gave Southerns the lead in the 45th minute.
Daniella Grobbelaar restored parity four minutes from full-time, and Jamie Plaatjies then snatched the win in the final seconds of the contest.
On Tuesday, Southern Gauteng A, Northern Gauteng B, and Border A will chase their first wins of the event.
