Rondebosch Boys’ High kept it tight in the field after the visiting Tygerberg Hub won the toss and chose to bat first in their Western Province rain Schools SA20 quarterfinal on Thursday.

Hub opener Callan de Bruyn made 20 runs off 32 balls, but he was the only member of the visitors’ top order to make it into double figures.

Batting at six, Enid van Slay struck two fours and a six and top-scored with 25 not out from 21 deliveries in the Hub’s 76/8.

The bowling scorecard made for astonishing reading, with 10 players sending down two overs each.

Captain Schalk Fourie snared a miserly 2/5, Arin Spiller continued his consistent wicket-taking form by snaffling 2/6, and Ethan Strydom snapped up 2/7.

Needing only 77 to win, opening batsman Ethan de Heer Kloots went on the offensive, cracking five fours and a six to top-score for Rondebosch with 39 off just 32 balls.

Batting at five, Tom Hoffman hit three fours and a six and saw Bosch to a six-wicket win with an unbeaten 28 off 23. He and De Heer Kloots added 47 for the fourth wicket in 34 balls.

Victory was achieved in the 11th over of the Rondebosch reply. Their reward is a semi-final showdown against SACS on Saturday, 14 November.

Summarised Scorecard:
