Twelve schools are represented in the various KZN Coastal girls’ U18 and U16 teams to contest the SASHOC Indoor Inter-Provincial Tournaments in December in the Kloof/Hillcrest areas of KZN.
Last year, KZN Coastal u18A finished second after losing to Southern Gauteng U18A in an exceptionally tight final, which Southerns won 1-0.
They feature a stacked line-up for the 2026 event, with Codie Bestbier and Jenna-Leigh Freese having made the SA U18A side last year.
In August, Bestbier helped South Africa qualify for the FIH Fives World Cup, and she’ll again don national colours for the event, which takes place in Egypt in December.
Freese, meanwhile, was selected for the SA Schools U18A side in July.
Ella Bowyer, Jamie Da Silva, Zezethu Kunene, and Mia Lopes all made the SA U18B indoor hockey team in 2025, with Lopes achieving that feat while playing for the KZN Coastal U18B side. Bowyer and Da Silva joined their St Mary’s DSG, Kloof, team-mate, Jenna-Leigh Freese, in the SA Schools U18A team. Emily Simpkins was included in the SAU16A indoor hockey team.
Four of the KZN Coastal U18A squad are from St Mary’s DSG, Kloof, three are from Maris Stella, and there is one player each from Hillcrest High, Danville Park Girls’ High, and Our Lady of Fatima.
The KZN Coastal U16A team includes Our Lady of Fatima’s Charly-Rose Boyall and St Mary’s DSG’s Buntu Msweli, who were included in the SA U16A side in 2025.
