It’s not often that a development side reaches a regional final in the rain Schools SA20 competition. However, the Bridgton Hub is through to the South Western Districts (SWD) final after beating Hoërskool Punt in their semifinal in Mossel Bay on Tuesday.

The Hub was sent in to bat first, and Keaton Lambertjeen, who faced the first ball, top-scored with 23 off 15 balls, hitting three of them for four.

Although they struggled to build partnerships, the visitors, nonetheless, batted at over six runs per over, putting up 140/9 from their 20 overs.

Four Punt bowlers picked up two wickets apiece. Kanu Potgieter returned 2/13 from three overs, while the other three sent down four overs each, with Endinako Fundakubi claiming a miserly 2/14, captain De Wet Heyneke taking 2/31, and Daniel Theron returning 2/42.

The home side’s reply misfired, with five of their batsmen being dismissed without scoring.

Navan-Lee Skeffers, batting at seven, top-scored with 29 off 32 balls, striking four fours and a six, but that was more than half the runs Punt mustered.

Bridgton opening bowler Lastio Williams captured an impactful 3/13 from four overs, and Jerwill van Wyngaard snaffled 2/11 to wrap up the contest in his third over, with Punt knocked over for only 54.

After an impressive 86-run victory, the Bridgton Hub will face Hoërskool Outeniqua, winners by 142 runs over Glenwood House in their semifinal, for the title.

Summarised Scorecard:

Bridgton Hub 140/9 (Keaton Lambertjeen 23; Kanu Potgieter 2/13, Endinako Fundakubi 2/14, De Wet Heyneke 2/31, Daniel Theron 2/42). Hoërskool Punt 54/10 (Navan-Lee Skeffers 29; Lastio Williams 3/13, Jerwill van Wyngaard 2/12). Bridgton won by 86 runs.
