In a George derby, Hoërskool Outeniqua tackled Glenwood House in a South Western Districts (SWD) rain Schools SA20 semifinal on Tuesday.
The Kwaggas won the toss and made a flying start at the crease, with their openers, Ross Taljaard and Dehan Meyer, laying down the law.
Taljaard struck three fours and two sixes and made 49 off 34 deliveries, and Dehan Meyer walloped six fours in his side’s top score of 65 off only 39 balls.
Their opening partnership lasted just 56 deliveries but produced 88 runs.
Daniel du Preez and Liam Haasbroek kept the runs flowing, blasting 63 off only 29 balls in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand.
Du Preez cracked three fours and three maximums in his explosive 46, scoring at better than two runs a ball, while Haasbroek chipped in with 20 off 12 as Outeniqua tallied a robust 203/3.
Juan van Zyl was the best of the Glenwood House bowlers, nabbing 2/38 from four overs.
Unfortunately for Glenwood House, their reply fizzled and spluttered. They lasted into the 19th over but were bowled out for just 61.
Bjorn Joubert, batting third in the order, weighed in with 20 off 27 balls, but he was the only House batsman to move beyond a single-digit score.
A trio of Kwaggas’ bowlers picked up two wickets cheaply. Ross Taljaard bagged a miserly 2/9, Ewald Terblanche captured 2/12, and captain Hanno Swart claimed 2/13.
Summarised Scorecard:
Hoërskool Outeniqua 203/3 (Dehan Meyer 65, Ross Taljaard 49, Daniel du Preez 46*, Liam Haasbroek 20*; Juan van Zyl 2/38). Glenwood House 61/10 (Bjorn Joubert 20; Ross Taljaard 2/9, Ewald Terblanche 2/12, Hanno Swart 2/13). Outeniqua won by 142 runs.
