On Sunday, Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first loss of the season in the Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL), falling 2-3 to their Pretoria neighbours Refilwe at Curro Hazeldean.
Despite the setback, the Brazilians remain at the top of the u17 standings with 54 points after winning their first 18 matches. Refilwe follows five points off the pace-setters.
Sundowns had been dominant until Sunday’s showdown, but goals from Pretty Modika, Thando Mndaweni, and Dineo Kgomosotho earned Refilwe three impressive points in front of their home crowd.
In other matches, third-placed JVW, who trail Refilwe by only three points, scored a convincing 4-1 victory over TS Galaxy Queens.
Panorama turned on the style in a lopsided 10-0 defeat of Black Diamond Sports, which lifted the Roddepoort-based club to fourth place. They’re seven points behind third-placed JVW, who have 46 to Panorama’s 39.
In another high-scoring match, Edendale outplayed Chadi Puse Ladies 6-1, while Kenneth secured a 2-0 victory over Tornado Academy Ladies.
