Boland A, KwaZulu-Natal Coastal A, Eastern Province A, and Western Province A put their names forward as the favourites to go all the way on Tuesday, the second day of the SASHOC National Week.
The inter-provincial tournament sprang to life on Monday and runs until Saturday, 4 July, at Hilton College, St Anne’s, and The Wykeham Collegiate.

Alanda Rademeyer, who scored three goals in Boland A’s back-to-back wins on Monday, boosted her tally to five with a brace in her side’s 2-0 win over Western Province B on Tuesday afternoon.
“We have managed to grind out each result by holding the fort and taking the opportunity when it presented itself,” Wayne Coetzee, the Boland A assistant coach, told SuperSport Schools News.
Their victory over Western Province B was a good example of that approach. One of the hallmarks of Boland A’s game has been their excellence on attack. They move the ball well and run into attacking spaces off the ball. However, Province B mostly neutralised Boland A’s attacks with great discipline at the back.
However, Boland A’s team-first mindset came to the fore in their refusal to be denied three points by Province B. They toiled for 52 minutes before Rademeyer made a breakthrough with a fierce strike from the right side of the circle. She then doubled the score a minute later from a few metres inside the circle.
“The camp mentality is healthy, so they all work together for the same goal,” said Coetzee.
The victory left Boland with the maximum possible nine points and at the summit of Pool A. Eastern Province A, with two wins in two games, is in second place with six points.
Coach Geowynne Gamiet’s charges began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Province B on Monday. They followed that up with a 2-0 win over Northern Gauteng A.
“I do feel that the girls’ aggressive press has been a significant positive and is something that differentiates us. They are managing to create a large number of opportunities,” Gamiet reckoned.
Statistics support his assertion. Eastern Province A created 48 circle entries against Province B, and another 41 against Northern Gauteng A. Unfortunately, they haven’t made full use of their chances, but Gamiet hopes his side will improve their conversion rate in their next few games.
Another major positive for Eastern Province A is their sturdy defence, which has a clean record – no goals conceded through the first two days. Gamiet would happily accept a third clean sheet on Tuesday, when his charges meet Boland A in a key clash.

KZN Coastal A produced a ruthless display against Border A on Tuesday morning. Coach Chardinay Penniston‘s side romped to an 8-1 win, the biggest margin of victory thus far at the tournament.
Border would have been forgiven for thinking that an upset was on the cards when they took the lead in the fifth minute through Busiwe Mayekiso. However, that goal served as a wake-up call for KZN Coastal, and their retaliation was telling.
Jamie da Silva led the scoring with a hat-trick, Isabella Momoh contributed two goals, and Jenna-Leigh Freese, Zezethu Kunene, and Alwande Dladla chipped in with a goal each.
“We’re incredibly proud of the way the girls have played throughout this tournament so far. They’ve shown real character, worked hard for each other, and as a team. They have grown in confidence with every match,” Erdine Coetzee, the KZN Coastal A team manager, said.
Later in the day, the Coastal side faced a sterner test from Southern Free State A. Penniston’s charges showed character on their way to a 3-2 win, courtesy of goals from Tyra Norris, Ella Bowyer, and Momoh. Southern Free State A, who played with a never-say-die attitude, fought until the final second of play. Both of their goals came off Daniella Grobbelaar‘s stick.
“Against Southern Free State, they were put under tremendous pressure, especially in the final minutes. The opposition really threw everything at them. Their resilience and teamwork made all the difference in a tough, hard-fought win,” Coetzee reflected.
Western Province A, who round off the list of teams yet to taste defeat, beat Southern Gauteng A 2-0 in their first game on Tuesday, with goals from Juané Meiring and Camryn Corner.
Later in the day, Coach Olu Ncukana’s charges battled their way to a 3-2 win over Northern Gauteng B. Province A charged into a 2-0 lead in the first chukka, through goals from Chelsey McGregor and Inam Gungubele.
Northern Gauteng B replied through Bincah Oosthuizen in the third quarter, but Province A restored their two-goal lead shortly afterwards. Nicole Smuts netted Northern Gauteng B’s second goal late in the fourth chukka, but it was too little too late.
