The South African Schools Hockey Association (SASHOC) named four boys’ SA Schools squads at the conclusion of the SASHOC National Week in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.
The action, which took place at St Anne’s DSG and Hilton College, concluded with new champions being crowned in both the boys’ and girls’ A Section.
Western Province A defeated Northern Gauteng A 3-0 to clinch the girls’ title, while KZN Coastal A produced a remarkable comeback to beat Western Province A 3-1 in a penalty shootout to lift the title for the first time in eight years.
After the action, the highly anticipated SA Schools teams were named, and the selectors made some interesting calls.
They announced an SA Schools u18 team along with an u18B, u17, and Fives’ squad.
Players from the Boland A squad dominated the u18A team.
Paul Roos Gimnasium‘s Jeandré Cilliers, Logan Lackay, Jeandré van Zyl, Tylor Carter, Seth Paterson, and Caleb Cilliers were all selected.
Paarl Vallei High, another Boland school, had Luca Jordaan and Luka Meets, the tournament’s top goal scorer and the Forward of the Tournament, included.
Paarl Boys’ High captain, Martin de Bruyn, also cracked the nod.
The second-best team represented is the champion, KZN Coastal A, with four players.

The Durban High School duo of Oyinthanda Ngejane and Chris Abrahams were named, while the Player of the tournament and Coastal captain, Ryde Brisset, from Clifton College, also deservedly made the squad, along with Luc Boyall of Northwood School.
The squad was completed by Dale Jennings from Eastern Province A and Grey High School, Viwe Ndlovu of KZNInland A and Maritzburg College, Rudolph Thiart from Northern Gauteng and Affies, and Thandanani Zuma from Michaelhouse, the KZN Inland A captain.
For the first time in years, there was only one Western Province A player selected, their captain, Mohlodi Maseko, from South African College High School (SACS).
The SA u18 squad will compete at the u21 Inter-Provincial Tournament in August, while the u17 side will play in a series in Zimbabwe.
The SA Fives squad will travel to Kenya to compete in the Africa Cup, where they will attempt to qualify for the FIH Hockey Fives World Cup.
