The hosts, contesting Pool A, faced a formidable challenge from St David’s Marist Inanda on Friday, but kept their composure to secure a nail-biting 47-46 victory.
Also in Pool A, Hilton College edged out St Charles College 50-48, while St Stithians College had their way with Kingswood College, charging to a 69-39 win over the Makhanda school.
In Pool B, Michaelhouse outplayed Clifton College 42-14.
In a clash of top Johannesburg schools, St John’s College grabbed a 39-28 win over St Benedict’s College. St John’s then powered past Saheti, adding a commanding 69-23 win to their record.
Peace Players International claimed a prized scalp, defeating St Alban’s College 52-45.
