Westville Boys’ High School lifted the Mancosa KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA) Cowie Cup after a victory over Durban Academy in a penalty shootout on Tuesday, 15 September.
The final, hosted by Queensburgh High, finished goalless after regulation time, sending the contest into a shootout, which the Griffins won 4-3.
Westville had qualified for the final with an emphatic 3-0 win over Port Shepstone High, while Durban Academy had held off Brettonwood, scoring a 1-0 win in their semifinal.
It wasn’t an entirely clean week for Westville, though. They went down 2-4 at Hilton College in the last of the football derbies.
In Durban, on Saturday, the prestigious Raw Cup, KwaZulu-Natal’s oldest inter-school sports trophy, first contested in 1899, was up for grabs when Durban High School (DHS) hosted Maritzburg College.
In a highly competitive clash, the sides played to a 2-2 draw during regulation time. That sent the match to the penalty spot, and DHS prevailed 5-4 after a tense shootout.

Kearsney College was at home against Northwood in their final match of the season. The Botha’s Hill boys closed on a high, securing a hard-earned 2-0 victory over the Knights following a commanding second-half performance.
The opening goal came from Kayden Mulder, with captain Simnene Kubheka slotting their second to make sure of the win.
In Gauteng, St Stithians College scored a slim 2-1 victory over King Edward VII School (KES) on Wednesday.
