DURBAN: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has today announced an 18-player squad for the upcoming South Africa Under-19 Women’s extended national training camp, taking place from 18 September – 01 October in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
The two-week camp, which will feature a series of unofficial T20 matches, provides the Junior Proteas with another opportunity to enhance their preparations for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 in Bangladesh and Nepal.
The squad is headlined by captain Mieke van Voorst and includes rising star and recently capped Proteas Women wicketkeeper batter Jae-Leigh Filander.
The 18-member squad also features Miya Lalor, Respect Mabasa, Melissa van der Merwe and Ashleigh van Wyk, who all impressed during the SA U19 Women’s winter tour to Pakistan in July.
Head coach Dinesha Devnarain commented: “This camp is another important step in our preparation for the World Cup and gives us an opportunity to continue building on the work we have done with this group over the past few months.
“The tour to Pakistan was valuable for us because it exposed the players to competitive international cricket and different conditions, and now the focus is on taking those learnings forward. Having two weeks together, along with the chance to play T20 matches, allows us to keep developing our game plans, synergy and understanding of what will be required at the World Cup.
“We have a good mix of players who have been part of the programme for some time and others who continue to put their hands up through the pathway. The crucial thing for us is to keep creating opportunities, building depth and making sure the players are progressing as we move closer to Bangladesh and Nepal.”
