In preparation for two 20-over matches against a visiting Paarl Boys’ High on Saturday, Boland Landbou played two midweek T20s against Somerset College and HTS Drostdy. They won both contests, continuing their strong start to the 2026/2027 season.
In the first match, played at Somerset College’s Taberer Oval, the Paarl Farmers won the toss and elected to field first.
They were certainly fired up for their fielding session. Captain Francois Prins, Hanno du Toit, and Divan Meyer were involved in three run outs, and the visitors knocked over the hosts for a miserly 39 in 16.5 overs.
Despite that low score, only Troy Davis picked up more than a single wicket, claiming a tight 2/6 in four overs.
Only two of the hosts’ batsmen tallied double digits. David de Klerk top-scored with 13, hitting a four and the only six of the innings, while Buhle Mfunelwa cracked a four in his 10-run contribution.
In the chase, Boland Landbou opener Gunther Schmidt tallied the match’s top score, a modest 14 runs.
Credit to Somerset College. Their bowlers made the run chase difficult. Admittedly, the conditions favoured the bowlers.
Mila Silamsi needed just one over to snap up 2/4, while Daniel Kaplan picked up 2/10 in 2.4 overs.
Ultimately, the Paarl Farmers reached 40/4 in 9.4 overs to win the match by six wickets.
On Thursday, Boland Landbou hosted HTS Drostdy on the Stiaan van Zyl Oval.
The Worcester locals won the toss and opted to field. It was a decision that didn’t pay off, with the home team’s skipper Francois Prins and Matthew Geldenhuys plundering an opening stand of 86 runs.
Prins tallied 38 off 32 balls, whacking two fours and two sixes, while Geldenhuys top-scored, hammering eight fours in his 59 off 52 deliveries.
The Drostdy Donkies struggled to contain the home side’s batsmen. Tehan Jonck, with 1/8 in three overs, was the best of their bowlers as Boland Landbou totalled 149/3 after their 20 overs.
They were, then, excellent in the field again.
Caleb Seroot was on song with the ball, capturing 4/14 in four overs, while opening bowler Gunther Schmidt knocked over 3/18 in four. After his 38 with the bat, Prins bowled tidily, too, claiming 2/11 in three overs.
Seventh to the crease, Luctavio Witbooi, tried to keep Drostdy’s run chase alive, bashing a four and two sixes in his 26 off 23.
His efforts weren’t nearly enough, however, as Drostdy was dismissed for 67 after 19 overs at the crease, leaving Boland Landbou the winners by 82 runs.
It was an emphatic response to a loss against HTS Drostdy the previous week.
