The South African u16 and u17 boys’ and girls’ teams have jetted north to compete in the Zimbabwe Junior Hockey Series. It starts on Thursday and runs until Sunday.
The action takes place at St John’s College and Chisipite Senior School, with Namibia, Eswatini, Botswana, and Zambia joining South Africa and Zimbabwe.
A total of six South African teams will be in action, including SA U16A and B boys’ and girls’ teams, and the SA U17 boys’ and girls’ sides.
The teams were announced after the SASHOC National Weeks, which took place in KwaZulu-Natal last month.
In the Boys’ section, the SA u16B side takes on Namibia and Zimbabwe’s u16A and B teams.
The SA u16A team, meanwhile, will contest the u18 Series, taking on Namibia, Zimbabwe, and the SA u17A side.
The scheduling is similar for the girls, with the SA u16As facing the SA u17A, Zimbabwe, and Namibia sides.
Last year, the South African u16A teams took on Zimbabwean sides and won the Allistar Fredericks Africa Challenge, which was hosted in Johannesburg.
The SA U17 teams, meanwhile, contested the Dato Mirnawan Cup in Malaysia in 2025. They chose to withdraw this year because the tournament’s dates clash with school exams.
