Scrumhalf Jaedon Powell delivered a full-throttle performance, distributing the ball with speed and precision to ignite Paul Roos Gimnasium‘s (PRG) attack against Boland Landbou on the Markötter Field on Saturday.
Twice, he made it to the breakdown so early that he sniped through open space to collect two tries, which helped PRG to a 45-14 victory.
The Farmers started slowly and trailed 0-26 at halftime. Utility back Erschel Hanga pulled one back for the visitors after coming off the bench, while outside centre Divan Meyer tallied nine points by a try and slotting two conversions.
The Stellenbosch locals’ eighthman, Werner de Bruin, used speed and strength to power his way through defenders, and those qualities brought him a try. Throughout the 70 minutes, he dominated with his ball carrying.
He’ll be one of the Maroon Machine‘s key players in their King Price Derby Series clash with Grey College on 15 August. Next Saturday, Boland Landbou will be in action in a King Price Derby Series farmers’ clash against Oakdale Landbou.
Hoërskool Charlie Hofmeyr came under heavy pressure, but they retained their unbeaten record with a 20-18 victory over Hoërskool Hermanus on Saturday.
Scrumhalf Ashley Reitz and right-wing Zephnith Sass used their respective speed and agility to weave past opposition defenders for vital tries as Charlies bagged a hard-fought two-point win.
Fullback Shudley Burrows was a difference-maker, nailing two penalties and two conversions.
Outside centre Liam Prodehl and right-wing Obinna Enenchukwu contributed a try each for Hermanus. Fullback Caleb Flint added a conversion and two penalties, contributing eight points.
After seven successive losses, Hermanus will have a final shot at redemption when they host Hoërskool Strand next Saturday. Charlie Hofmeyr will next be in action against Hoërskool Montagu on 15 August.
Scrumhalf Lorenzo de Jager was one of a few brace-scoring scrumhalves on the weekend, tallying a vital 10 points for Hoërskool Hugenote (Wellington) in their entertaining 39-34 victory over Hoërskool Hopefield.
Lock PW Labuschagne also crossed for two tries, using his long levers to dot down. He’s a busy player who enjoys being in the thick of things.
Hopefield made life uncomfortable for the Wellington locals with their attacking rugby. However, one or two defensive errors cost them dearly.
Hugenote will aim to continue their winning form when they travel to Hoërskool Brackenfell next Saturday. Hopefield hosts Hoërskool Swartland on Thursday.
