The Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL) returned from its mid-year break on Sunday, and Mamelodi Sundowns continues to assert its dominance, overwhelming every opponent the club faced in the u17, u15, and u13 age groups.
On Sunday at the Groenkloof University of Pretoria Campus, the Brazilians hammered TS Galaxy Queens 9-2.
That victory was the 18th in 18 matches for Sundowns this season. They’re well on track for another undefeated campaign, mirroring their past successes in the GWDL and underscoring their dominance in the league.
Sundowns’ Pretoria neighbours, Refilwe, in second place, with 54 points, trail the log leaders, Banyana Ba Style, by eight points. Refilwe, though, enjoyed Sunday’s biggest victory, overwhelming Black Diamond Sports 12-0.
JVW, in third, with 43 points, suffered a setback on Sunday, losing 0-1 to Edenvale. The three points gained by Edenvale lifted them to sixth place in the standings, on 31 points.
In other matches, Hellenic Falcons claimed an entertaining 6-2 victory over Chadi Puse Ladies, while the fourth-placed University of Pretoria (Tuks) beat seventh-placed Kenneth 2-0. Panorama scored a tight 2-1 win over Tornado Ladies.
