Once again, some of the biggest schoolboy rugby clashes of 2027 will take place during the annual NMI Toyota Noord/Suid tournament hosted by Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool in Pretoria from 19 to 23 March next year.
No less than 46 different schools will be in action during the 13th edition in the Jacaranda City. Five new faces are Hilton College, Grey High School of Gqeberha, Hoërskool Pietersburg, Sentraal and Fichardtpark of Bloemfontein.
The tournament might have started with humble beginnings back in 2014 with four schools – Paarl Gimnasium, Die Hoërskool Menlopark, Waterkloof and Harrismith taking part in the inaugural tournament, but it has grown to one of the biggest, if not the biggest, showcases of South African rugby talent at schoolboy level.
Most of the 44 schools that will be in action next year count among the Top 50 rugby schools in South Africa. This makes it a truly special rugby festival that plays an important role in the pipeline for developing South Africa’s next generation of rugby stars.
The opening day of the tournament will already see some exciting match-ups as Grey College takes on Garsfontein, while Monument of Krugersdorp will take on Stellenberg’s Jade Brigade.
Grey High School will lock horns with Outeniqua from George in their first appearance at the tournament, with Hilton College opening their account against Menlopark.
Garsfontein will also face Paarl Boys’ High on the third day after beating the latter for the first time ever during last year’s event.
The hosts, Affies, will face Boland Landbou and HTS Drostdy in their two matches during the festival.
South Africa’s top side of 2026, Paarl Gimnasium, will take on Helpmekaar Kollege of Johannesburg and Noordheuwel of Krugersdorp in their two matches in the capital city.
Paul Roos Gimnasium will take on Noordheuwel and Waterkloof in their two matches. The clash against Klofies could produce some fireworks.
Grey College will take on Hoërskool Durbanville in their second encounter, which will be a special occasion for the latter. Durbies is celebrating their 200th anniversary next year.
