Defending champions, Waterkloof, top their pool thanks to a bonus-point victory in the final round of pool matches over Westville Boys’ High during the Wildeklawer Noord/Suid T20.
They will face St Andrew’s School from Bloemfontein in the quarterfinals at Sinoville Cricket Club.
The Klofies chased 100 runs to secure victory, which they reached in the 13th over of their innings. Their opening batsmen, Rico van der Walt and AJ de Villiers, shared a 32-run partnership to get them off the mark. Van der Walt’s partnership of 35 runs over the third-wicket with Wian du Plessis (18) brought them even closer.
Waterkloof suffered a six-run defeat against St David’s Marist earlier on the second day. They needed a win over Westville to secure their place in the play-offs, and the bonus point ensured they finished on top of the standings.
Westville’s Ewan du Toit (2/25) was once again his side’s pick of the bowlers.
Aidan Baudach (33) scored a third of Westville’s runs. Klofies’ Juan Cloete (2/9) caused the most damage with the ball, while the spin bowling duo of Rivan Booysen (2/17) and Johan Liebenberg (2/17) kept Westville’s batters guessing.
St David’s Marist will play their third successive match on the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool of Pretoria’s main oval in the quarterfinals against King Edward VII.
St David’s defeated Grey High School from Gqeberha by 41 runs in their final pool match thanks to a quick-fire half-century by Jason Rowles (51). He faced just 29 deliveries and helped his side reach 163/6 in their allotted overs.
Hayden Campbell (45) and Khutso Sekgobela (31) also added valuable contributions with the willow.
Grey High School were restricted to 122/8 thanks to some good bowling by Kyle Butler (3/20) and Christoph Emslie (2/31).
