St Stithians College vs Clifton College
Clifton College‘s number three batsman, Muhammed Malek, was a force to be reckoned with on Friday, the second day of the Fasken Time Cricket Festival.
Thanks to an outstanding effort at the crease, he was a deserving winner of the player of the match accolade.
The Durbanites trailed by 228 runs at stumps on day one on the Andries Dlamini Oval, but Malek helped them to close down that deficit, scoring a marvellous 170 runs off 254 deliveries.
He saw the ball well, clobbering 25 fours and three sixes, for 118 runs in boundaries.

Batting at five, Veer Ramouthar partnered with Malek for the visitors’ biggest partnership of the match, which produced 112 runs from 185 deliveries for the fourth wicket.
St Stithians’ opening bowler, Tendai Kadyamadare, captured 2/42 in 15 overs, while Matthew Katzenstein sent down one over and claimed 1/6. They were the only bowlers to take wickets in the second innings for the home side.
Chris Collins was sharp in the field, though, and was involved in two batsmen being run out, including Ramouthar for 45.
When the match came to a close, Clifton had reached 259/5 after 85 overs in their second innings. St Stithians did not get a chance to bat again.
St David’s Marist, Inanda vs St Andrew’s School
St Andrew’s School‘s Harbin Smith top scored in his side’s first innings on day one, making an unbeaten 33. As a result, he moved a spot up the batting order to fifth. The second time around, he had his way with the home team’s bowlers, hammering 24 fours and a six in a brilliant knock of 129 off 156 balls on La Valla Oval.
He and Spencer Murray combined for 130 runs in their third-wicket stand, with Murray tallying a patient 45 off 116 deliveries, which included five fours.
Despite the onslaught from the Saints‘ batsmen, St David’s Hayden Campbell sparkled with the ball, snapping up 4/28 in 7.4 overs. He started a collapse that began with the Bloemfontein outfit on 260/4 and ended with them being all out for 301 after 72.4 overs.
His peers, Roberto Mariano and Miles Pegg, played their part, with Pegg nabbing 2/48 from 10 overs and Mariano picking up 2/29 in six.
The hosts were left with eight overs to navigate. Needing 178 to win, victory was never on the cards, and they finished on 54/2.
Schalk van Rensburg, who claimed 1/32 in four, dismissed opener Roberto Mariano for 12, while Ryle Beckmann added the wicket of Mariano’s fellow opener, Sohail Seonath, for 18, to go with his first innings’ five-for.
Beckmann’s 1/15 from four overs gave him match figures of 6/107 from 33 overs.
