Boland Landbou comfortably dealt with the challenge of Klein Nederburg Secondary on Wednesday, winning their rain Schools SA20 clash by 100 runs at the Stiaan van Zyl Oval.
Lady Luck favoured the home side in the Paarl derby, and they chose to bat first, producing a solid showing at the crease.
Two of their batsmen came close to scoring half-centuries. Opener Gideon Kotze clobbered five fours and two sixes in a quickfire 47 off only 29 balls, while Emile Goosen, at four, remained unbeaten on 44 off 38 after hitting five fours and a six.
Kotze and Louis du Plessis, who made 24, shared an opening stand of 71 runs.
Klein Nederburg’s Codi Davis nabbed 2/28 from four overs delivered in the middle of Boland Landbou’s innings, while Neo Gravel snared 2/20 from three overs towards its end.
Gravel, Eden Davids, and Rianco Adonis also ran out batsmen, preventing the Paarl Farmers from taking full control, and limiting them to 156/9.
That total was more than enough, however. Only Tyreze Petersen made it into double figures for the visitors, smashing a six and a four in his 22 off 21 balls as Klein Nederburg was bowled out for only 56 in the 17th over.
Kobus Prins, the younger brother of Francois Prins, undermined their batting effort, capturing a miserly 3/6 from four overs, while Troy Davis picked up 2/12. Caleb Seroot chipped in with 2/14 from three as Boland Landbou’s bowlers dictated matters.
In the South Western Districts (SWD) girls’ division, Rosemoor Hub delivered an assertive batting performance against the Thembalethu Hub.
Grace Hampson opened the innings for the visitors and bludgeoned an impressive 16 fours to score 78 off just 62 deliveries. Chaela Jonck cracked 12 fours of her own in an unbeaten 54 off 49, and the pair built a whopping 150-run second-wicket partnership off just 71 balls.
Thembalethu’s bowlers did themselves no favours by conceding 66 extras, of which 38 were wides, and 24 were no balls.
After 20 overs, Rosemoor Hub had rocketed to 227/2.
Lithalethu Silangulane was the best of the Thembalethu bowlers, taking 1/42 in four overs, which included only six extras, from three wides and three no balls.
When Thembalethu batted, they found Grace Hampson to be as unrelenting with the ball as she was with the bat. She removed four batters for only 11 runs in three overs, and Lauren Freeks shone too, returning 2/14 from three.
The home side was never in the game and was dismissed for 40 in the 11th over, leaving Rosemoor Hub with a massive 187-run win.
In a boys’ SWD rain Schools SA20 clash, Langenhoven Gimnasium hosted York High on Tuesday, and took the opportunity to bat first when the coin flip fell their way.
Captain Cobus Esterhuyse faced the first ball of the match and took a liking to the York High bowling, striking seven fours and two sixes on his way to 55 off 41 balls. He and his fellow opener, Ruben Hendricks, who contributed 12 runs, got Langenhoven off to a sound start, putting on 61 runs for the first wicket.
Franco Meyer hit a four and two sixes in a speedy 33 off 20, and Malherbe Jonker contributed three fours and a six in his hasty 22 off 12 as they shared a 47-run fourth-wicket partnership from only 23 balls.
Ethan Cox stood out for York, knocking over 3/27 from four overs, while Christian van Zyl chipped in with 2/15 in a two-over spell as the Oudtshoorn outfit totalled 138/5.
It was a solid total, but York High hunted it down, securing a four-wicket victory in the 18th over of their reply.
Number four batsman, Jordan Ross, led the charge, going undefeated and hammering five fours and two sixes in his electric 51 off just 33 balls.
Fagan Hofsta hit three fours and a six of his own, adding 32 from 26 deliveries, and the duo drove their side to the brink of victory, partnering for a match-winning 83 runs from 58 deliveries.
Sange Mayekiso helped with 24, and York High ended on 139/4.
DJ Oktober was the only Langenhoven Gimnasium bowler to claim more than one wicket, returning 2/20 from four overs.
