Boishaai blasts past Boland Landbou, Rondebosch lights up Milnerton

Paarl Boys’ High recorded their highest points output in a match this season, outscoring Boland Landbou 49-21 in a Paarl derby on Saturday.

Lock Derrick Groenewald and his second row partner, captain AD Faul, competed with seemingly infinite stamina, while the visitors’ openside flank Steven Muller and hooker JP Norton moved with the speed of centres.

All four forwards scored a try apiece in a free-flowing match, which was played at a high pace.

The Farmers‘ openside flank Juan Visagie delivered yet another strong performance. He was again one of the game’s most outstanding players, and twice crossed the whitewash for tries.

It must have been a difficult decision for the selectors to leave him out of their Western Province Craven Week teams.

Boishaai‘s backline complemented their forwards well, with scrumhalf Liam de Villiers, inside centre Wian Delport, and fullback Danté Davids all catching the eye and bagging a try each.

De Villiers and Davids appeared to have a sixth sense for exploiting space, and could have easily collected a few more five-pointers if not for some valiant defence from the Farmers.

While the win brought Paarl Boys’ High’s second-term schedule to a close on a high note, Boland Landbou will have a chance to end their assignments with a victory, but a stiff test awaits them. They take on Stellenberg High on Friday.

Fullback Joshua Kirby bagged a double for his efforts in a complete and dominant performance from Rondebosch Boys’ High, who rumbled to a 63-7 victory over Milnerton High.

‘Bosch set the tone early on at their Tinkie Heyns Field, going up 21-0 after having the lion’s share of possession and snuffing out the few attacking opportunities that Millies were afforded.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Rondebosch’s forwards competing ferociously and their creative backs playing with flair.

Inside centre Tyler Heyns came to life in the midfield, shutting down the opposition attack while also causing Millies trouble with some darting runs and slick passes down the line. He also picked up a try.

Among the forwards, lock Bertus Versfeld and hooker Kwaza Gobingca seemed to have a near telepathic communication as the hosts’ lineout performed smoothly and securely. Gobingca yet again made it onto the scoresheet after another solid performance.

Millies mustered a try through utility back Allie Latief, who came off the bench, and flyhalf Chadlin Sellidon added the extras.

Rondebosch will aim to keep up their momentum in a southern suburbs derby versus Bishops next Saturday. Milnerton resumes their fixtures next term when they take on Hoërskool Tygerberg.

Outside centre Adieu Cramford stood out as the paragon of Hoërskool Swartland’s attacking excellence in their emphatic 52-5 triumph over the Tigers in Parow on Saturday.

He scored two tries and gave the defence a major headache with his clever running lines. As per usual, left-wing Zaidell Paulus also got himself onto the scoresheet, while fullback Juan Hilburg also breached the Tygerberg try line.

Tighthead prop Ernst Coetzee put in another solid shift and had his strong ball carrying rewarded with a try of his own. The burly front ranker is like a cheat code when carrying inside the opposition’s 22-metre area.

Lock Finn Fowles, a reliable lineout option, was rewarded with his first try in a long while. He’s one of those players who puts his head down and does the dirty work at the breakdown. He also doesn’t shy away from delivering big tackles against the opposition’s biggest ball carriers.

Saturday’s defeat was a fourth on the trot for Tygerberg, who have now also gone seven games without winning.
