As part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, Pretoria Boys High School (PBHS) will host the Association of Public Boys’ Schools of South Africa (APBSA) Football Festival from Wednesday to Friday.
This festival, which brings together 15 top teams, was hosted by King Edward VII School (KES) in 2025.

As a festival, a winner is not declared at the conclusion of the event. Rather, it emphasises the spirit of the game, celebrates sportsmanship, camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence.
While some schools have been busy on the football field for some time already, with Wynberg Boys’ High hosting their annual Freedom Cup, and Glenwood winning the Mancosa KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA) Coastal A-League, they’ll face some sides, like Jeppe High School for Boys, Pretoria Boys High, and Parktown Boys’ High, who have not yet seen much action.
While the APBSSA football festival is not a tournament, the inaugural event in 2025 delivered intense and highly competitive matches. More tight contests are expected at PBHS.
The line-up also includes Rondebosch Boys’ High, Bloemfontein’s St Andrew’s School, Queen’s College, Potchefstroom High School for Boys, and Kimberley Boys’ High, the host of the annual Absa Wildeklawer Soccer Tournament. They’ll be one to watch after making it to the semi-finals of the Absa Wildeklawer against a high-quality field.
Whether teams will field their strongest line-ups and adopt a winning mindset remains to be seen. That will be determined on the pitch in Pretoria.
