Stellenberg High ended their second term fixtures with three consecutive wins after a 48-24 victory over Boland Landbou in Paarl on Friday.
Stellies came out and played with a high tempo. Captain and eighthman Yanos Molnar excelled as a ball carrier and earned a try for his efforts.
Lock Juvan Burden and hooker Liam Joubert were in sync at the lineouts, and also got themselves on the scoresheet thanks to their strong ball carrying.
The Farmers ‘forwards also played with intensity, but were not as cohesive in their play from the set-pieces. Despite a lack of possession, tighthead prop Tiaan Malan and captain Juan Visagie on the openside flank both crossed for tries for the home side.
Scrumhalf Oloff Bergh and fullback Gehano van Bo exposed vulnerabilities in the Jade Brigade‘s defence, utilising their pace to bag tries.
Stellies’ flyhalf Ethan van Biljon was razor sharp, distributing his passes with both pace and precision. He and inside centre Daniel Mongie both added tries after slicing through the Boland Landbou defence with clever running lines.
It was another example of Stellenberg’s clinical backline play this season. With speed at their disposal, it hasn’t been difficult for them to draw in an extra defender to create room for the men out wide. On Friday, right-wing Ralton Rhode and fullback Liam Jacobs got on the outside and crossed the whitewash for five-pointers.
The Jade Brigade has three games in the third term. They return with a tasty-looking clash on 25 July against Hoërskool Outeniqua. Boland Landbou resumes their schedule on the same day, when they take on Wynberg Boys’ High.
