Affies of Pretoria is our newly top ranked team for 2016. The team from Pretoria had no trouble to thrash Westville Boys’ High by 62-0 Saturday in Durban. As we re-assess the strenght of each team and their opponents every week Paarl Boys’ High was knocked from the top position although they extended their unbeaten run to 25 matches in a row with a last-gasp victory of 29-27 over Outeniqua in George.
Our system rewards teams that play against strong(er) opposition as well as teams that play more matches. Our top six teams – Affies, Paarl Boishaai, Grey College, Glenwood, Oakdale Landbou and Jeppe Boys’ High is still unbeaten. Paarl Gimnasium moved into the seventh position with a convincing 34-14 victory to end Boland Landbou’s unbeaten status.
Selborne College is also still unbeaten in the eight spot with a 10-all draw at the Kearsney Easter Festival against SACS the only blemish on their record. We will see quite some movement in the rankings in the next few weeks – with it settling after the annual Wilderklawer tournament in Kimberley at the end of the month.
Rondebosch Boys’ High is the only school to be excluded from our rankings at the moment as they’ve only played one match against South African opposition thus far. Their only match being a convincing 29-8 victory over Wynberg Boys’ High.
Please note that we don’t take matches against international opposition into consideration in our rankings. These games will however still be recorded and shown in our results. This rankings is not an official ranking as there is no official ranking on schoolboy level and this is only to get the discussion on school rugby on South Africa flowing. We however take our responsibilty on reporting school rugby very seriously.
