Westville Boys’ High secured a nail-biting victory after a Super Over against Grey High School of Gqeberha in their Pool A match of the Wildeklawer Noord/Suid T20 tournament in Pretoria on Friday.
Both sides totalled 165 runs in their innings. Westville’s Michael Hopkins took the responsibility to bowl the Super Over, in which Grey High mustered only five runs. The team from Durban then scored the winning runs with the fourth delivery to secure an important victory.
Westville batted first, with opening batsmen Aidan Baudach (81*) and Tristin Delvin (22) laying a solid foundation of 58 runs. Baudach faced 59 deliveries and hit six fours in his unbeaten half-century.
Grey High School’s opening batsman Joe Stone (58) once again led his side’s charge with a half-century. He shared an opening partnership of 58 runs with Stevan Trytsman (23). Matthew Marsbank (29) and Nathan Trytsman (34*) also shared a 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket to keep the Eastern Cape side in the match.
St David’s Marist Inanda, meanwhile, defeated the defending champions, Waterkloof, by six runs in their encounter at Affies. Opening bowler Christoph Emslie (4/17) caused most of the damage, with South Africa U19 captain Jason Rowles (2/36) providing some assistance.
St David’s batted first and reached 157/6 in their allotted overs with Sohail Seonath (47) and Khutso Sekgobela (34) leading the charge. Spin bowler Rivan Booysen (2/21) and Juan Cloete (2/34) were the pick of the Klofies’ bowling attack.
Opening batsman AJ de Villiers (71) again got Waterkloof’s innings going with a bang. His brother Vorster de Villiers also weighed in with a valuable 24 runs near the end of the innings.
