Jayden Wyngaard showed searing pace on the right wing, scoring two tries for Rondebosch Boys’ High in an enthralling 36-30 triumph over SACS on the Memorial-A Field on Saturday.
With the six-point win, ‘Bosch completed a season’s double over their southern suburbs’ rivals after a nail-biting 19-17 victory in May.
Fullback Caleb Bell also showed his speed and crossed for another five-pointer for the visitors.
SACS battled hard to come back from 6-21 down at the break. Fullback Nahum Koen and outside centre James Sale got themselves onto the end of some quick handling to cross for tries.
Flyhalf Jake Dave bagged half of the team’s total, collecting 15 points from three penalties and three conversions.
Credit must also go to the ‘Bosch locks, Bertus Versfeld and Sebastian Vermeulen, who made life difficult for SACS in the lineouts, which has been an improving aspect of their game.
Next weekend, SACS visits Bishops, while Rondebosch will be out to reverse an earlier 17-27 loss to Wynberg Boys’ High.
Hoërskool Parel Vallei’s backline again delivered a clinical showing, as the Somerset West outfit hammered the visiting Hoërskool Tygerberg 52-14 on Saturday.
Left-wing Raphael von Loeper continued his rip-roaring, try-scoring form, tallying 10 points via a brace. Fullback Shudley Rhoda, with his pace, and inside centre Brad Brown, with his strength, proved difficult to stop, and they collected a try each in another strong performance from that trio of backs.
Blindside flank Marcé Els was the only starting forward to get his name on the score sheet, and certainly deserved his try. With Els in the mix, it seemed as though the Bulldogs spent large portions of the game with an extra man at the breakdown.
PV plays their last game of the season against Pearson High in Gqerbeha on 15 August.
After an exhaustingly close encounter with Milnerton High last weekend, it’s possible that Hoërskool Tygerberg was still feeling the after-effects of that draining encounter. They’ll need to take a short rest before preparing for a clash against Hoërskool Melkbosstrand next Saturday.
Hooker Winsor Solomons and eighthman Jean Beukes delivered inspired performances, with both dotting down twice, as Hoërskool Swartland outscored Hoërskool Punt by 38 points to 17 in Mossel Bay on Saturday.
The hosts produced some impressive individual moments despite the loss. Hooker Jaydeen Jansen enjoyed a two-try outing, while openside flank Jeandré Pieterse scored the home side’s other try. Eighthman Luan Janse van Rensburg knocked over a conversion.
Roccies will be proud of their improvement. Earlier in the season, they won by only 10 points against Punt, taking that game 25-15.
They’ll be going for three on the trot when they play away against Hoërskool Hopefield on Thursday.
