Paul Roos Gimnasium (PRG) and Parel Vallei High School (PV) produced impressive performances over the past weekend to end their respective seasons on a high note.

PRG hosted Grey College in Stellenbosch at the Maties AstroTurf and thumped the visitors 6-0, while PV made the trip to Gqeberha to face Pearson High School and won 1-0.

It was the perfect ending to the season for both sides, who have performed well and remained consistent throughout the year.

PRG went into the game against Grey on the back of a 4-0 victory over Wynberg Boys’ High.

Coach Michael Baker‘s troops were ruthless against Grey College, and Charlie Boucher found the back of the net twice. He was joined on the score sheet by Louis Kriel, Kyle Botma, and the SA Schools u18A duo of Caleb Cilliers and Logan Lackay.

“The game started slow; my six SA Schools boys had to fly back late on Friday night to make their last game for PRG, so I was getting a little concerned in the first half,” coach Baker told SuperSport Schools News. “We had a good chat at half-time, and the boys changed gears.

“We scored four goals in the third chukka, and that was a reminder of the beautiful hockey they played all season. It was extra special for Charlie Boucher because he was injured for the year and got his first goal of the season in his last game.”

After another extremely successful season, PRG will bid farewell to several experienced players, including their captain, Seth Paterson.

“I am definitely going to miss the class of 2026,” Baker said. “The brand of hockey they played this year really was something special. These were my boys. We really had something special in this group.”

PRG might be done with the schedule in South Africa, but they have a tour to The Netherlands in the coming week, where they’ll play against several clubs and watch the ongoing Hockey World Cup.

Parel Vallei, meanwhile, relied on a solitary goal by their talisman Luka Meets to seal the win against Pearson.

Coach Michael van Rensburg‘s charges were pushed hard but held on to cap off an outstanding season, which included a silver medal at the Hibbert Shield and gold at the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament.

“It was a nice way to end off the season, the most successful season Parel Vallei has had,” coach Van Rensburg enthused.

“We were in two finals, scoring some big wins against traditional rivals, placing us as one of the top hockey schools in South Africa.

“The boys worked extremely hard this season and deserve all the credit. It was just a blessed season with lots of memories made.”
