Leopards one of only two unbeaten sides left in SA Rugby u20 Championship

SA Rugby u20 ChampionshipOnly one team can boast with a spotless record after the first two rounds of the SA Rugby u20 Championship.

The Golden Lions who had a bye during the second round of the competition, and the Leopards are also unbeaten, but it includes a draw against Western Province.

The Leopards will however feel more than content with their effort during the opening rounds of the competition. They managed to return to Potchefstroom with their undefeated status still intact after managing to draw 14-all against Western Province at Newlands in Cape Town. 

The Leopards, Sharks, and Blue Bulls all have seven points on the standings with only their points difference thus far deciding their individual positions on the log. 

The Blue Bulls bagged an important victory of 33-31 over the Sharks in Durban thanks to a brace of tries by flanker Rynard Mouton. The Sharks however also managed to get two log points from the match by scoring four tries and losing by less than seven points. 

The Free State secured a bonus-point victory of 24-18 over Eastern Province in the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. The home side scored four tries via Avumile Bongco, Jooste Nel, Lesley Botha, and Marnus Nel while keeping the visitors from scoring a single try. 

All of Eastern Province’s points came via the boot of their flyhalf, Morné de Ridder, who slotted six penalties. He is also with 31 points during the first two rounds the top scorer in the competition so far. His team however still occupies the bottom position on the standings.

Western Province 14 (14) – Tries: Keagan Blanckenberg, Jarrod Taylor. Conversions: Meyr Retief (2). Leopards 14 (7) – Tries: Abré Minnie, Naiden Jaarts. Conversions: Martin Venter (2).

Free State 24 (24) – Tries: Avumile Bongco, Jooste Nel, Lesley Botha, Marnus Nel. Conversions: Wikus Basson (2). Eastern Province 18 (9) – Penalties: Morné de Ridder (6).
