It is fast, and it is exciting, and with Clover now on board, the 2026 Clover High School Sevens Series is set to be the biggest schoolboy sevens spectacle South Africa has seen yet.
This year’s series consists of nine tournaments, as well as the Champion of Champions tournament, which will be hosted at North West University in Potchefstroom.
“It is incredible to have Clover as a partner of the series. Clover is a brand that I have grown up with, and it is great to be part of their growth. We don’t see them as sponsors but as our partners,” said Darryl Weir, the tournament organiser of the Clover High Schools Sevens Series.
All the tournaments will be live-streamed via SuperSport Schools, with three receiving additional exposure on DStv Channel 216.
Besides the Champion of Champions tournament, the tournaments at Paarl Gimnasium and Hoërskool Montana in Pretoria will be broadcast on the SuperSport Schools’ channel on the DStv bouquet.
The tournament at Paarl Gimnasium, the Marius Schoeman Sevens tournament, is the biggest sevens tournament on the schoolboy calendar. The tournament hosted by Montana will see the best that the Jacaranda City has to offer in action.
The series kicks off on Saturday, 15 August, in Durban, with the first tournament being hosted by Glenwood High School.
“The series is about providing opportunities for schoolboys to develop and showcase their talent. It is not just a platform for the well-known rugby schools, but also for the schools from the rural areas,” said Weir.
Six of South Africa’s nine provinces will host series tournaments.
Started in 2007 by Weir, the series has a proud history, and it has seen multiple future Blitzbokke using it as their first stepping stone to carving a career in sevens for themselves.
Players like Cecil Afrika, Branco du Preez, Kwagga Smith, and Impi Visser all got their first exposure to sevens rugby in the series.
The series will also include hockey and netball tournaments at the various venues.

12 September – Jim Fouché in Bloemfontein
18-19 September – Champion of Champions tournament hosted at the North West University in Potchefstroom
