Charly-Rose Boyall scored a brace to lead KwaZulu-Natal Coastal A to a 2-1 win over KZN Inland A on the Lower Astro at St Anne’s DSG and the inter-provincial tournament title at the u16 girls’ SASHOC National Week on Sunday morning.
Coastal A successfully defended the title they lifted last year by scripting an unbeaten run through the event. They recorded five wins in five games on their way to the summit in Pool A.
In the semi-finals, they faced a stern test from Eastern Province A, who held Coastal to a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The KZN side then advanced to the title game 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Boyall was a key figure in KZN Coastal A’s campaign, scoring 10 of her side’s 17 goals. The striker outdid her performance in the 2025 tournament, during which she scored nine goals and topped the goal-scoring chart.
The next most prolific goal scorers were Inland A’s McKenzie du Bourg and Northern Gauteng A‘s Monique Gerber, who scored five goals apiece.
Boyall’s star shone so brightly that, in addition to her winner’s medal, she also took home the Player of the Tournament and Striker of the Tournament accolades. She was also selected for the SA u16A High Performance squad.
In the final, Coastal A held a slight edge over Inland A, winning eight penalty corners to Inland’s five. That said, the sides were evenly matched in the first chukka. They traded blows, but their defences proved equal to the task.
Boyall broke the deadlock in the 25th minute off a short corner, firing the ball into the back of the net from the top of the circle.
After that goal, the contest appeared destined for a 1-0 finish. However, eight minutes from the end, Olivia Balmer equalised to set up a tension-packed end to the contest.
After needing a penalty shootout to get past Eastern Province A, KZN Coastal A wanted to avoid another shootout, and they managed that by Boyall scoring their second three minutes after Balmer’s strike. Like her first goal, the second came from a short corner conversion.
Thereafter, all Coastal A needed to do was hold onto their lead for the final five minutes of the contest. They did so with aplomb.
