Stellenberg High defeated Boland Landbou 18-10 in Bellville last August. The Farmers will have an opportunity to avenge that defeat when the sides meet at 16:15 in Paarl on Friday.
The hosts were most recently in action in a Paarl derby against Paarl Boys’ High, going down 21-49. Meanwhile, the Jade Brigade heads into the clash fresh off a 59-5 victory over Bishops, who struggled to contain Stellies’ powerful rolling maul.
Captain and eighthman Yanos Molnar was on fire in that match, scoring two tries in an energetic performance.
Locks Juvan Burden and Rocco Buchanan were powerful ball carriers. They bagged a try each and delivered solid ball from the lineouts, while hooker Liam Joubert was a beneficiary of Stellenberg’s effective rolling mauls.
The Farmers’ captain and openside flank Juan Visagie scored a brace of his own last weekend. He leads by example and has an unrelenting engine that delivers one of the highest work rates on the field.
It will be interesting to contrast the impacts of the two hard-working captains.
Boland Landbou right-wing Kobus Jordaan also got on the scoresheet in that Paarl derby loss. He, left-wing Steyn Lamprecht and fullback Gehano van Bo give the home side plenty of speed out wide, and that’s where the Farmers have found success on recent outings.
The odds are stacked in Stellies’ favour, but Boland Landbou has yet to lose twice in succession at home this season.
