New trophies await the men’s and women’s champions of the Engen Champs of Champs tournament. On Monday evening, the impressive silverware was unveiled on DStv‘s Football on 216.
Engen Ambassador and former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Brighton Mhlongo, showed off the new trophies in the studio and discussed the forthcoming tournament, which takes place at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre from Friday to Sunday.

New champions will be crowned in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions as neither of the 2025 winners, Cape Town City and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies, won their regional titles this year, resulting in them missing out on qualifying for the national final.
UJ suffered a 0-2 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Gauteng provincial final held in July. In Cape Town, also in July, the Citizens were eliminated in the semifinals by Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town.
Antalyaspor went on to win the Cape Town Engen Knockout Challenge, edging out the Ubuntu Football Academy 5-4 on penalty kicks after they had finished regulation time deadlocked at 1-1.
Kaizer Chiefs will be in the spotlight. Not only are they one of the biggest names in South African football, but they also won the Gauteng Development League (GDL) Top 8 championship in March before claiming the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge title. The Phefeni Glamour Boys are also in the thick of the Gauteng Development League (GDL) title race, and currently occupy second place behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi will face strong competition from, among others, AmaZulu, Maria Louw High School from the Eastern Cape, and Antalyaspor JPM CPT, who are also the reigning champions of the Bayhille Premier Cup.
Antalyaspor defeated Mamelodi Sundowns in the Bayhill final. They’re enjoying a tremendous season and will be chasing a third title in Pretoria.
In the women’s competition, Mamelodi Sundowns, who beat Durban Ladies 1-0 to win the Engen Champs of Champs in 2024, are back after a one-year absence. Like Chiefs in the men’s competition, Banyana Ba Style represents one of the country’s biggest clubs, and their record of success is both intimidating and enviable.
Their challengers include Toti Ladies, City Lads Ladies, and Sisters FC.
