With both teams aiming to end their campaigns on a positive note, the fixture promises to be a fitting conclusion to seasons that have been characterised by growth, development, and determination.

Kingswood College enters the encounter with confidence after another encouraging campaign.

Coach Norma Bill highlighted the team’s steady progress throughout the season, with a strong emphasis on structure, discipline, and decision-making under pressure. “Our season has been a positive and building one so far,” she said.

“The group has shown steady growth in both confidence and cohesion, with a strong focus on playing a structured, disciplined brand of netball.”

Kingswood has focused on improving their ball speed, intentional movement and composure in pressure situations, while encouraging players to take ownership of their roles on court.

Preparation for the derby has centred on maintaining balance and perspective.

“We’re treating it as an exciting derby, rather than adding unnecessary pressure,” Bill said. “The goal is for the players to express themselves, trust our structures and compete with intensity while still enjoying the occasion.”

Recent history favours Kingswood, who have won each of the last four meetings between the schools. Victories of 26-19 in 2022, 35-19 in 2023, 32-13 in 2024 and 30-23 in 2025 will provide them with confidence, but Bill believes every derby presents a fresh challenge.

Rather than relying on individual stars, Kingswood’s strength has come from contributions across the court, with their shooting circle developing strong combinations and their defensive unit applying consistent pressure.

Across town, DSG has also enjoyed a season of steady growth. Coach Geowynne Gamiet praised her side’s resilience throughout the year, highlighting both notable victories and valuable lessons learned from closely contested matches.

One of the standout achievements of their season has been the selection of their centre, Jubilee Mpehla, for the Eastern Province U17 team, recognising her consistent performances and commitment throughout the campaign.

DSG have also benefited from the continued development of shooter Senna, whose confidence and influence in the shooting circle have grown significantly as the season has progressed.

Leadership has been another key factor in the team’s development, with captain Lila de Romijn and vice-captain Liya playing important roles in guiding the group through the challenges and successes of the season.

As the team prepares for its final fixture, excitement surrounds the occasion. The match carries added significance as DSG bids farewell to six matric players who will be representing the school for the final time.

“Their contribution, dedication and commitment to DSG Netball over the years have been invaluable,” said Gamiet.

With local bragging rights at stake, a proud derby tradition to uphold, and two teams eager to finish their seasons strongly, the final Suzuki Power Netball Series fixture of the year should be a richly entertaining contest.
