Wynberg Boys’ High has appointed former South African men’s hockey captain Bruce Jacobs as the school’s new Director of Hockey from 2027.

Jacobs will take over the reins from Devin Stanton, who was at the helm for 10 years.

During his tenure at the Cape Town school, Stanton led the programme to some memorable heights and also coached the first team this season after taking over from Ben Wiley.

Jacobs brings a wealth of experience to his new gig, having played and coached the game at the highest level.

During his playing career, he captained the SA men’s team and earned over 150 international caps.

He donned the green and gold at the Olympic Games, two Commonwealth Games, and two Hockey World Cups.

Over the years, Jacobs has been heavily involved as Director of Hockey at Central Hockey Club, which, in July, won the Elite Club Championships for a fourth successive year to retain its status as South Africa’s leading club side.

On top of that, he’s been involved as a selector for Western Province Schools‘ hockey and the SA Men’s side.

“We warmly welcome Bruce to the Wynberg community and look forward to the leadership, expertise, and vision he will bring to our hockey programme,” the school’s headmaster, Deon Scheepers, said in a statement.

}A meet-and-greet session will be arranged during the fourth term, where he will share his vision for the future of Wynberg Hockey.”

The headmaster also paid tribute to the outgoing Stanton.

“We also extend our sincere thanks to Devin Stanton for his valued contribution to Wynberg Hockey over the past 10 years as Director of Hockey.

“His dedication to the programme and commitment to the school have been greatly appreciated, and he has served the Wynberg hockey community with distinction throughout his tenure.

“We thank him for his service and look forward to his continued involvement within the programme.”
