St John’s College overcame a determined Hoërskool Noordheuwel side, while Jeppe steamrolled St Peter’s College in their rain Schools SA20 matches on Wednesday.

Captain Joshua Hall led from the front in St John’s College’s 33-run win at Noordheuwel.

He called correctly at the toss, chose to bat first, and played a fine knock to help his team to 150/6 from their 20 overs. His bowlers then dismissed Noordheuwel for 117 in 17.1 overs.

The Blues‘ skipper scored a brisk 51, featuring four sixes and three fours, from only 36 balls to push his side to a healthy total.

Hall made his way to the crease in the eighth over, joining opening batsman Bryn Gilmour, who had done well to keep the Blues on course despite losing three wickets.

Gilmour went on to contribute a vital 43 from 36 deliveries, depositing three balls over the boundary and adding a four to that.

Needing to bat at 7.55 runs per over to win, Nories made a solid start to their run chase, with three of their top four batsmen making it into the twenties.

Liam Roets top-scored for the home side with a fiery 28 from only 13 balls, while Ruvan Jordaan weighed in with 27 from 28, and Reney van der Berg added 21 from 24 before being run out. Unfortunately for Noordheuwel, Heinrich Smith was the only other batsman to reach double figures.

The home team’s progress was hampered by a strong effort in the field from the Blues. The visitors gave little away.

Rohan Ninan was the most successful of the St John’s bowlers, knocking over 4/31 in four overs, while Juan de Villiers chipped in with 2/25 runs in 3.1 overs. Adam Heron also sent two batsmen packing, picking up 2/17 in two overs.

Jeppe vs St Peter’s College

Jeppe ensured that they made a short stop at St Peter’s College by registering a dominant 10-wicket win over their hosts in a contest that lasted only 15.1 overs on the Top Oval.

Vegas Scott, the Jeppe captain, called correctly at the toss and sent St Peter’s in to bat first. The hosts were on the back foot from start to finish. Their innings lasted 12.3 overs, and they were bundled out for only 30 runs. It took Jeppe’s openers less than three overs to race to 31/0 to claim victory.

Blake Pinto led Jeppe’s assault with the ball, snapping up 3/4 in two overs, while Zizi Mkhize proved to be even more miserly, nabbing 2/3 from four overs. The all-rounder’s return included 21 dot balls from his 24 deliveries.

Mkhize, who was named the Player of the Match, also pouched a catch and participated in three run-outs, while Lincoln Casais and Ethan van Dyk shared two wickets between them.

Opening the batting, Boitumelo Skunka and Ethan Ferguson ensured that Jeppe rolled to victory without losing a wicket. Ferguson top-scored with an unbeaten 18 from 11 balls, while Skunka contributed nine from six balls.
