King Edward VII (KES) and St David’s Marist Inanda marched to convincing victories over Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge and Sedibeng Hub in their rain Schools SA20 contests on Wednesday afternoon.

KES, who were crowned the champions at the Wildeklawer Noord-Suid T20 Tournament on the weekend, recorded a nine-wicket win over Trinityhouse at home, on the John Hurry Oval at KES.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the visitors battled their way to 115/7 from their 20 overs. In reply, KES displayed their batting might by racing to 116/1 in just 11 overs.

Opener Urav Mukhija commandeered the chase with an unbeaten 58 from 36 balls, slamming three fours and four sixes.

He guided KES to victory in the company of Kyle Henenne, who ended his innings not out on 11 from 10 balls. Their unbroken 44-run second-wicket stand was built on the platform provided by Mukhija’s 72-run opening stand with Cian Sullivan (25).

Earlier in the afternoon, Morné Steyn tore into Trinityhouse’s batting lineup, capturing 4/14 in three overs. His timely breakthroughs meant that the visitors’ innings never settled into a rhythm.

Kyle Henenne dislodged three batsmen while conceding 16 runs from his four overs. His victims included three of the top four in the visitors’ batting order, among them, Connor Montjoie, who top-scored and held the Trinityhouse innings together with a resilient 50-ball 62.

Justin du Preez provided good support, chipping in with 26 from 32 balls.

St David’s Marist Inanda vs Sedibeng Hub

Playing at home on Wednesday, Sohail Seonath struck an unbeaten century, and Daniel King captured a five-wicket haul to spirit St David’s Marist Inanda to a big 129-run win over Sedibeng Hub on the La Valla Oval.

Seonath won the toss and chose to bat first. He qualified that decision with a century that lifted St David’s to 192/3 in 20 overs. Sedibeng had few answers to the questions asked by the St David’s bowlers and capitulated for 63 runs in 14.1 overs.

Opening the St David’s innings, Seonath expertly directed proceedings, stroking 10 fours and cracking six sixes in his unbeaten 117 off only 80 balls. He shared the crease with three batsmen, with his most consequential partnership a 105-run third-wicket stand with Matthew Nicholson, who weighed in with 34.

The home side’s skipper and Maru Challies, whose contribution was 16, also put on an unbroken stand of 40 for the fourth wicket.

Sedibeng’s response was crippled in the very first over of their innings, when Daniel King captured two wickets. The Hub’s batsmen found King almost unplayable, and he finished with 5/5 from three overs, which included a maiden.

Nicholson, Challies, and Kai Davis claimed a wicket each as St David’s cruised to victory.
