South African College High School (SACS) added another big scalp to their record by claiming a dominant 7-0 victory over Wynberg Boys’ High in Cape Town on Friday night.
Playing at the Astro of Dreams, SACS was a class above their opponents on their way to securing their latest impressive win in the Western Cape.
The victory means that coach Sam Holmes‘s side has maintained its unbeaten record in the province, with the only blemish to their record being a 3-3 draw against Paul Roos Gimnasium (PRG) in May.
The boys from Newlands headed into the highly anticipated clash against Wynberg on the back of a 9-2 win over Reddam House Constantia and a narrow 1-0 defeat of Paarl Boys’ High.
The hosts were also brimming with confidence, having defeated Durbanville 4-1 and Parel Vallei 3-2 in recent weeks.

SACS, however, imposed themselves from the first whistle and rushed into a 5-0 lead at the break. They scored the last two goals of the game in the third chukka.
Captain Litha Kraai scored a brace for the visitors, while other goal contributions came from Daniel de Wet, Josh Goulding, Mohlodi Maseko, Luke Laver, and Josh Azevedo van Dyk.

“It was a great feeling putting together such a [good] team performance away from home, at the Astro of Dreams,” SACS head coach Sam Holmes told SuperSport Schools News after the match.
Wynberg is one of the schools that I have the most respect for. They are always competitive and game. Unfortunately, they collided with a SACS team that’s had a couple of really good weeks of preparation.
“Everything seems to be starting to gel a bit more, and it was great to see a very solid team performance.”
SACS skipper, Kraai, continued his superb form and again laid down a marker against a rival side.
While Holmes was impressed with his captain’s performance, he also credited the rest of the pack for playing good hockey in recent weeks.

“When you have the likes of Litha Kraai playing, he’s going to have a dominant effect on any game, and he was at his absolute best last night. He’s doing things that I haven’t seen before on a schoolboy level.
“But again, to still have five different goal scorers speaks to the talent in the rest of the squad and the work they’ve put in, and for them to be rewarded as well.”
SACS has two matches remaining this term. Next week, they face Paarl Gimnasium, a side that held them to a 1-1 draw last year.
A week later, they face St Andrew’s College of Makhanda, who are touring the Western Cape and are also scheduled to face Parel Vallei High.
Scorers:
SACS 7: Litha Kraai (2), Daniel de Wet, Josh Goulding, Mohlodi Maseko, Luke Laver, and Josh Azevedo van Dyk. Wynberg Boys’ High 0.
