SACS captain and opening batsman Aqeel Waggie was named the player of the match after top-scoring in his side’s rain Schools SA20 win over Reddam House Constantia on Friday.

The southern suburb side batted first, and Waggie showed a liking for the Reddam bowling, smashing four fours and three sixes in an electric 46 off only 25 balls.

Mickey Watson and Max Fourie added further substance to the SACS’ innings, sharing a solid 73-run stand off 53 deliveries for the fourth wicket.

Watson was undefeated, striking four fours in his 39 off 35, while Fourie entertained with three fours and a maximum, adding 34 off 25.

Reddam’s Seth Gordon snapped up 2/9 in a two-over spell, while Jack Hindmarch nabbed a solid 3/19 across four overs as SACS ended on 157/6 from their 20 overs.

SACS picked up only five wickets when Reddam batted, and Ronan Meintjies, with 2/8 from three overs, was the only bowler to pick up more than one wicket, but the visitors were unable to mount a challenge.

Middle-order batsman, Jack Hindmarch, was the visitors’ leading scorer, weighing in with 23 off 25, including the only six of the innings.

That was a rare entertaining moment in a laboured response, which finished with Reddam on 66/5, leaving SACS with a big 91-run victory.

In Bellville, Stellenberg High welcomed the UK’s Ipswich School for a 30-over-a-side clash.

Batting first, Stellies‘ number three batsman, Aidan Pienaar, settled in and hit three fours and a six in an unbeaten 53 off 75 balls. He also partnered opening batsman Marnus Palmer for a 57-run second-wicket stand, with Palmer’s share being 22.

While Ipswich struggled to pick up wickets, they did a good job of restricting the run-scoring, limiting Stellenberg to 129/3 after 30 overs. Zayan Imam, with 1/26 from five overs, returned the tidiest figures.

Replying, Tom Golding provided a solid 21 from 31 balls at the top of the Ipswich order, but they lost wickets regularly, preventing the tourists from building momentum.

Riku Doubell caused Ipswich problems, bagging 3/8 from three overs, while Gideon Wasserman picked up 3/13 from five, and Ipswich clawed their way to 74 all out after only 22 overs, leaving Stellenberg with a comfortable 55-run victory.
