In a grinding King Price Derby Series affair for both outfits on Saturday, Rondebosch Boys’ High topped their arch-rival, Bishops, 29-15, thanks largely to their forward power.

Bosch hooker Kwaza Gobingca scored two tries off the back of the rolling maul as his side did the double in the Bish-Bosch Derby for the third year in succession.

While the hosts impressed from the set-piece on the Tinkie Heyns Field, their backs also showed some flair, and Joshua Kirby earned both the Suzuki Game Changer Moment of the Match and King of the Match accolades.

He scored a sensational try to land the first award, receiving a pass around halfway before slicing through a handful of defenders on his way to crossing the whitewash.

Openside flank and captain Linakho Mehlomakulu played with his heart on his sleeve in a mighty last shift for his school. The SA u18 A star sealed the deal after tearing through three defenders to score from a crash-ball inside the opposition’s 22-metre area.

For Bishops, eighthman Jono Horton and scrumhalf Jack Fleck tallied a try each from close range with quick changes of direction near the base of the ruck.

In a frustrating end to their 2026 campaign, Bishops lost their last six matches on the trot, but they played with admirable pride on Saturday.

With the win, Rondebosch attained its fourth three-game winning streak of the season. They also won five of their six southern suburbs’ derbies. Wynberg Boys’ High won four, SACS three, and Bishops didn’t collect a victory.

Overall, Rondebosch won 12 of their 17 matches in 2026.
