Following the KwaZulu-Natal Engen Knockout Challenge, where AmaZulu and Toti Ladies lifted the titles, the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge takes centre stage from Friday to Sunday at Wits Marks Park in Johannesburg.
In 2025, Panorama upset Kaizer Chiefs in the Gauteng final. Now, the Roodepoort club has set its sights on retaining the title. However, the journey will not be straightforward for Panorama, as Chiefs are eager to make amends for their loss in 2025’s title game

Other prominent teams participating in the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge include Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, TS Galaxy, Highlands Park, and Siwelele. They’re well-acquainted with one another and regularly meet in the Gauteng Development League (GDL). At the mid-year break, Kaizer Chiefs is at the top of the table.
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) won both the provincial and national titles in the Engen girls’ competition in 2025, but they’ll face some stern challengers, including from Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, TS Galaxy Queens, SAFA Academy, and the newly formed Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, who will be contesting the Engen Knockout tournament for the first time.
In a recent press release, Engen Sports Ambassador and former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo commended the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge for highlighting the quality of South Africa’s emerging football talent.
“The Engen Knockout Challenge continues to create opportunities for young players to test themselves against the very best in the country,” he told the Engen Sports media team.
“Johannesburg has always produced exceptional talent, and this weekend is another chance for these players to make their mark and show why this tournament remains true to its theme of where Diski legends start,” he added.
