In a low-scoring affair, Hoërskool Outeniqua recorded a 27-run win in a South Western Districts rain Schools SA20 match at Langenhoven Gimnasium on Tuesday.

Batting first, Outeniqua’s innings received a boost from number four batsman, Daniel du Preez, who stuck around for 29 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours in his side’s top score of 30.

Batting at seven and eight respectively, both Jodin Olckers and Ewald Terblanche scored 21 runs as they partnered for a seventh-wicket stand worth 39 runs.

In the 20th over of their innings, the George locals were dismissed for only 114.

Cameron Williams troubled Outeniqua, knocking over a stingy 3/8 from four overs, while Ethan Engelbrecht claimed 3/25, and DJ Oktober 2/30.

Defending a modest total, the visitors responded strongly, with a trio of their bowlers excelling. Each sent down four overs, with captain Hanno Swart leading the assault with 3/7, while Ross Taljaard claimed 2/17, and Ewald Terblanche 2/19.

Those three performances helped to limit Langenhoven Gim to only 87/8 in reply.

Ethan Engelbrecht, batting at four, followed up his good bowling with his team’s best score of 25. He faced 38 balls and hit a four and a six. Cameron Williams, who made his way to the middle after the fall of the seventh wicket, offered stubborn resistance, launching two sixes in his 24 off 28 balls.

In the Western Cape, Wynberg Boys’ High cruised to a solid 54-run victory over the Victoria Hub on the Jacques Kallis Oval.

Opener Yaqeen Gamieldien scored a steady 37 off 36 balls, and rotated the strike, while his fellow opener Noah du Plooy went after the Hub’s bowlers. He faced 54 balls, hit seven fours and two sixes, and finished unbeaten on 78 off 54 deliveries. He also shared a 76-run opening stand with Gamieldien.

The Hub’s Daniel Wray claimed a relatively tidy 1/22 in three overs as Wynberg posted 169/3 after their 20 overs.

The visitors were never able to truly challenge Wynberg’s healthy total, although their batsmen, Tatum Schilder and Ziyaad Adams, both tallied 18, while Connor Williams, who opened the innings, top-scored for the Victoria Hub, with 32 off 46 balls.

Wynberg’s Azam Saiet removed two batsmen for 15 runs from two overs, but wickets were hard to come by as the Hub played somewhat conservatively, which left them on 115/5 when they ran out of overs.
