The second edition of the Curro Halala Cup kicks off on Friday, 7 August, at HeronBridge College.
Four days of intense boys’ competition will unfold on the fields, with the inaugural girls’ Curro Halala Cup set to follow from 14 to 16 August.
In the first edition of the boys’ competition, Northern Academy defeated Norkem Park High in the final. By reaching the title game, both schools automatically qualified for 2026’s national finals, along with the losing semifinalists, Navalsig High and Grey College.

While Northern Academy is certainly one of the teams to watch, the competition will be fierce, and Navalsig, who won the Absa Wildeklawer Soccer Tournament earlier in the season, will again be a contender.
Northern Academy won all their Absa Wildeklawer group matches but were eliminated in the quarterfinals. They’ll be chomping at the bit for an opportunity to make up for that.
They’re in Pool C of the Curro Halala Cup. Their opposition will include the Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports School, a regular competitor in the Gauteng Development League (GDL), and Glenwood, the current champion of the Mancosa KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA) Coastal A-League. The Green Machine’s 2025 season didn’t meet the standards they had set in recent years, and they failed to progress beyond the group stage of the Curro Halala Cup. They’ll have greater ambitions than that.
Pool C also includes Polokwane’s Westenburg Secondary School, Virginia’s St Anne’s Technical High, and Johannesburg’s Waterstone College.
Last year’s runner-up, Norkem Park High, is in Pool D alongside Meridian Pinehurst, Curro Nelspruit, Durban High School, and Mondeor High.
Pool B should be very interesting. It features Grey College, third in 2025, and Clapham High, a title threat, whose squad includes players who represent the Mamelodi Sundowns GDL side.
Barberton High and Meridian Cosmo City missed out on qualification for the main competition of the Curro Halala Cup, but they booked their places this time around. They’ll also be up against Curro Century City and Christian Brothers’ College (CBC) Mount Edmund.
In Pool A, Navalsig will be challenged by another perennial title challenger, Virginia High, as well as Flora Park High, Curro Soshanguve, Camps Bay High, and Curro Thatchfield.
Following the conclusion of the second boys’ competition of the Curro Halala Cup, the first edition of the girls’ Curro Halala Cup takes place a week later, from 14 to 16 August, also at HeronBridge College.
The groups and fixtures will be announced at a later date via SuperSport Schools News, and the tournament will be available for live streaming on the SuperSport Schools App and online.
