After hosting three events in KwaZulu-Natal and one in East London, the Clover High School Sevens Series spreads its wings this weekend, visiting Heidelberg, where the event is loaded with title contenders.
The U15 action takes place on Friday, 4 September, followed by the U17 competition on Saturday, 5 September.
Watch it LIVE on SuperSport Schools.
One thing is certain: a new U17 champion will be crowned, with last year’s winner, Welkom Gimnasium, not participating in the event this year.
Hoërskool Noordheuwel defends the U15 title they won by comfortably beating the hosts, Volkskool Heidelberg, in the 2025 final.
The teams include Nories‘ arch-rival, Hoërskool Monument, the national runner-up in 2024, and a semifinalist last year. They’re a major title threat in Heidelberg. Monnas will be favoured to top Pool A of the U17 competition, while Noordheuwel will be favoured to take first place in Pool B.
Pool C could be tightly contested, although Helpmekaar will fancy their chances against Dinamika, Hans Moore, and Transvalia.
In Pool D, Volkskool Heidelberg and Die Hoërskool Menlopark should compete for the number one spot.
In the U15 event, Nories’ toughest competition in Pool A looks likely to come from Menlopark, while Helpmekaar and Transvalia should battle it out for first place in Pool B.
In Pool C, Monnas should be the class of the field, while Pool D could be where matters get very interesting, with Hoërskool Middelburg, who weren’t a part of the Heidelberg Sevens last year, a potential fly in the ointment for the hosts.
