The recent weekend of the Gauteng Development League (GDL) was filled with football action on both Saturday and Sunday, with additional catch-up matches taking place on Sunday.
After scoring a 1-0 win over Randburg on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs continues to lead the GDL standings.
Chiefs’ Njabulo Msimango netted the sole goal, pushing the Phefeni Glamour Boys to a total of 42 points after 19 matches. They hold a six-point lead over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have two games in hand.

Sundowns, the defending champion, were held to a scoreless draw by the stubborn Panorama on Saturday.
On Sunday, Bafana Ba Style played again, hosting Kathorus Hype Academy in Pretoria. Last month, the Katlehong-based club beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge, which Kaizer Chiefs won. On Sunday, however, the Brazilians avenged their previous loss to Kathorus, winning a tight contest 1-0.
Rockefvs also had two matches on their schedule. If they won both, second place beckoned. They took a successful first step on Saturday, picking up three points following a 2-0 win over Joburg City.
Itebogeng Maake opened the scoring in the 14th minute, assisted by Phetogo Phetle. Just five minutes into the second half, Remothabetse Dithathe scored a second for Rockefvs, with Maake turning provider.
Also on Saturday, another Pretoria club, Siwelele, claimed a 1-0 victory over Wits Juniors, thanks to a goal by Sethu Sibiya in the second half. On Sunday, though, Siwelele was held to a goalless draw by Future of Africa.
In other Saturday matches, Prestige Football Development Academy drew goalless with Kathorus, while Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA) and Jomo Cosmos played to a 1-1 draw.
On Sunday, the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PYMF) downed Rockefvs, scoring a 1-0 win over the Pretoria club.
Highlands Park was on song, scoring a 3-1 victory over RESA. Prestige defeated Jomo Cosmos 2-1, and Joburg City handed Randburg their second defeat of the weekend, scoring a 3-2 win.
