Paarl Gimnasium visited Tulbagh High for a Boland rain Schools SA20 showdown on Thursday afternoon and made quick work of the home side.
The host’s opening pair, Waylon Coetzee and Eugene Titus, put up a solid 46-run first-wicket stand, with Coetzee hitting a four and a six in his 21 off 29 balls, while Titus top-scored for his team with a conservative 22 off 48.
That was a good start, but once they departed, Tulbagh High collapsed, losing their last nine wickets for only 18 runs.
After 17.4 overs, they were dismissed for 63.
Gimmies‘ bowler Jean le Roux was the reason for their collapse, capturing an incredible 6/4 from 2.4 overs. Wian Venter also shone, capturing 3/6 from four overs.

The run chase lasted 11.5 overs, with Paarl Gim reaching 64/3 to win the contest by seven wickets and booking themselves a place in the tournament’s next round.
Paul Schoeman, the fifth man to the crease, top-scored with a rapid and undefeated 23 off 13, smashing two sixes and a four. Dian Venter was 17 not out.
Waylon Coetzee showed off his all-round game by snapping up 2/14 in four overs.
At the Tollie Adams Oval in Piketberg on Wednesday, Paarl Boys’ High overwhelmed Steynville Secondary.
Batting first, much like Tulbagh against Paarl Gim, the hosts had only their openers make it into double figures. Caleb Dirks struck a laboured but unbeaten 13 off 33, while Ewen Goedeman top-scored with two fours in his 16 off 12. After their 28-run opening stand, none of the home side’s other partnerships reached 10 runs.
Boishaai‘s Divan Fourie was in fine form, sending four batsmen packing for only 12 runs, while AB Jacobs snared 2/11 as Steynville was bowled out for 61 runs after 14.2 overs.
The visitors took only 4.2 overs at the crease to claim victory. AB Jacobs led the way, going hard at the Piketburg locals’ bowling, smashing five sixes and three fours in his hasty 45 not out off only 17 deliveries, to drive Paarl Boys’ High to 67 without loss in the blink of an eye.
Summarised Scorecards:
