Boland Landbou vs Worcester Gimnasium (two 20-overs)

Boland Landbou and Worcester Gimnasium met in two T20s  in Paarl on Saturday. The Paarl Farmers comfortably won both.

The visitors batted first in the first clash and mustered 84 all out as Troy Davis knocked over 3/11 in three overs.

Other strong bowling performances included Jeandré Visagie picking up 2/13 and Rohan Ryke taking 2/17.

Boland Landbou then took only 8.3 overs to speed to 85/1 and a nine-wicket victory. Number three batsman, Kobus Conradie, led the charge, belting three fours and two sixes in an undefeated 41 runs off just 25 deliveries.

When the toss went Boland Landbou’s way again in the second game, they changed things up and opted to bat first.

Openers Matthew Geldenhuys and Johannes Goosen turned that decision into a good one, combining for 65 runs for the first wicket. Geldenhuys’s contribution was 34 off 21 balls, with four fours and two sixes, while Goosen struck two fours and three maximums in his 33 off 20.

Albertus Buckle, batting at four, weighed in with 30 off 32 balls, and the hosts completed their 20 overs with 153/5 on the scoreboard.

When Worcester Gim batted again, Troy Davis shone once more, snapping up 2/3 in two overs, which left him with figures of 5/14 from the two matches.

Louis du Plessis was the only Farmers’ bowler to complete a four-over spell, claiming a miserly 2/6. Matthew Geldenhuys followed up his good batting effort with 2/7 with the ball as the visitors from Worcester were skittled for only 41, leaving Boland Landbou with a big 112-run victory.

Stellenberg High vs DF Akademie (50-over)

In a low-scoring contest, DF Akademie‘s Justin van Rensburg played a crucial patient innings of 77 runs not out off 134 balls at Stellenberg High on Saturday.

The visitors, after winning the toss and opting to bat first in the 50-over clash, adopted a conservative approach. Opener Wynand Breytenbach spent 40 balls at the crease, scoring 14 and sharing a 51-run partnership with Van Rensburg.

The Jade Brigade‘s Aiden Strydom bowled a tidy six overs, claiming 2/11 with his right-arm medium pace, while Aiden Pienaar bowled his full complement of 10 overs and returned 2/36.

After 50 overs, DF had tallied 173/5. Stellies needed to bat at 3.48 overs to win, but were steadily dismantled by DF’s cohesive effort in the field.

Keegan Deyzel was the visitors’ most successful bowler, cleaning up the back of the innings with an impressive 3/6 in 2.3 overs. Opening bowlers Lian Harrison and Renier Keyser knocked over 3/22 and 2/25, respectively.

Middle-order batsman John Naudé top-scored with 26 for Stellenberg, who slipped to 119 all out after 29.3 overs, leaving DF Akademie with a 54-run victory.

Hoërskool Durbanville vs Hoërskool Parel Vallei (50-over)

The home side, Hoërskool Durbanville, found the going tough after being sent out to bat first by Parel Vallei (PV).

Up against a voracious PV bowling attack, they limped to only 56 all out off 23.3 overs, with top-order batsmen George du Plessis and Liam Swart sharing the innings’ top score of 11 runs each.

Chris Hughes cleaned up Durbies‘ innings with a clinical 3/0 in nine balls, while Dirk van Zyl picked up from where he left off at the beginning of the year, capturing a neat 2/9 from six overs. Connor Bowman recorded 2/14, and Daniel Dreyer collected 2/17, also in six overs.

With it being a 50-over game, PV had to bat at barely more than a run per over to win. They took 14.4 overs to achieve victory.

Opener Luke Engelbrecht hammered three balls to the boundary in an otherwise steady 23 from 43 balls to steer his side to 58/3, while the host team’s Erich Vermeulen, Kruger Kirsten, and Divan van Eeden bagged a wicket each.
