Lenique Vogel ran riot, scoring five goals, while goalkeeper Miladri Muller had a quiet evening at the other end in Hoërskool Waterkloof‘s emphatic 8-0 win over Hoërskool Eldoraigne on the Klofies Astro on Friday night.

The victory was the perfect way for Klofies to end a barnstorming league campaign that saw them claim six wins in seven games. Friday evening’s victory was their third-highest score of the season, bettered only by 9-0 wins over Montana and Zwartkop.

Waterkloof’s lone loss was against the league champions, Die Hoërskool Menlopark, who defeated them 2-0 last week.

“This was a season to remember and a solid foundation for the next phase of 2026. Finishing second after coming fourth last year speaks volumes about the progress of this team,” Omari Pienaar-Geyer, the Waterkloof coach, told SuperSport Schools News.

Vogel, who is a member of the Northerns u18A side, enjoyed a fruitful season for Klofies. She scored 13 goals in festivals and added another 12 in the league. The win over Eldos was the third time she had scored a hat-trick in league matches.

The Waterkloof forward was in a no-nonsense mood against Eldoraigne, and made her mark only 20 seconds into the contest. After receiving the ball at the halfway line, she made a penetrating run into the Eldoraigne circle before unleashing a shot into the back of the net to set the home side on their way.

The opening goal rattled the visitors, who made a few defensive mistakes. One of those errors led to a penalty stroke after only five minutes. Vogel made no mistake from the spot.

Eldoraigne’s defence held firm for the remainder of the opening chukka, but Vogel continued to lead the Waterkloof onslaught in the second chukka, adding another three goals to her tally, while Dania Opperman scored the sixth goal of the contest as the Klofies overran their opposition.

After the break, Eldoraigne presented a better defensive structure in the third chukka and limited Waterkloof to only one goal, scored by Opperman with two minutes left in the quarter.

Mila Badenhorst, who has enjoyed a wonderful season up front for the Klofies, also got onto the score sheet, striking from a penalty corner rebound two minutes into the final chukka.

Eldoraigne’s efforts to manufacture a consolation goal were stymied. Behind the outfield defenders, goalkeeper Milandri Muller was not required to do much.

Waterkloof’s coach Elmari Pienaar-Geyer praised her side’s response to their loss against Menlopark last week, saying: “Missing out on the title by just one point will fuel us, not define us. Well done to Menlo on taking the league.

“Our journey continues, and this is only the beginning.”

Turning to the next order of business, she ended: “Best of luck to all the Northerns’ players at the IPT. Go represent [the province] with pride.”
