Hoërskool Durbanville showed no fear despite heading into Saturday’s battle against Hoërskool Stellenberg as the very firm underdogs in their King Price Derby Series showdown at Jade Park.
They scored first, going up 5-0 through their captain and eighthman, Muller Jansen van Vuuren. Undaunted, Stellies struck back almost immediately through their own captain and eighthman, Yanos Molnar.
Ultimately, Molnar was named the King of the Match for his valiant performance, which included a memorable hat-trick in the Jade Brigade’s convincing 42-12 victory.
The first 30 minutes were evenly matched, but the Jade Brigade then lifted the tempo near the end of the second half to score two tries, thanks to overlaps out wide. Emile Cilliers, on the left, and Ralton Rhode, on the right, provided the finishes in their respective corners.
Cilliers also bagged a second try with another diving finish in the left corner during the second stanza.
Flyhalf Ethan van Biljon produced a strong showing with the boot, slotting all six of his conversion attempts while also putting Durbies under pressure with an accurate high ball bombardment.
Standout lock Juvan Burden delivered yet another heroic performance, making powerful carries and dominating the lineouts with a commanding showing.
Blindside flank Zay-Winn Januarie crossed the whitewash for Durbanville towards the end of the match, which was just reward for a passionate shift, which featured many crunching tackles against a tough Stellies forward pack.
Stellenberg will feel justly proud of their performance in the last match of a memorable 2026 campaign. For Durbanville, it wasn’t the result they wanted. However, they showed noticeable improvement over the course of the season, earning the respect of their opponents during their first year in the Premier A league.
