St Patrick’s CBC stunned Stellenberg High on the opening day of the Wildeklawer Diamantveld T20 Tournament in Kimberley, winning Thursday’s clash at CBC by 29 runs.
CBC’s opening batsmen, Daniel Feder and Kieran Adams, shared a vital 65-run partnership in only six overs before Feder fell for an aggressive 34 from 17 balls, which had featured four sixes and a four.
Adams went on to the innings’ top score of 53 from 51 deliveries, hitting five fours and two sixes, but the rest of the batsmen didn’t contribute much. Only Faizeen Kajee, with 16, made it beyond single figures as CBC mustered 127/7.
John Naudé was one of the reasons for their struggles, capturing 3/24 in four overs, including the wickets of both openers.
Tiaan Barnard, who opened the bowling, played his part by nabbing 2/13 in his four.

Needing to bat at 6.4 runs per over to win, Stellenberg came up well short, replying with only 98/7.
Feder was again to the fore for CBC, removing two batsmen in his four overs while conceding only 10 runs. Darwin Diphokoja also struck twice and finished with 2/25 in four.
Aidan Pienaar, at the top of the Stellies‘ batting order, did his job, making 37 from 48 balls, but support was sparse. Michael van Kampen, with 15, was the next highest run-scorer, while Daniel du Preez (12) and Ruan Boshoff (11) also made it into double figures, but the Cape Town school needed more from their batting.
Hoërskool Garsfontein vs Hoërskool Framesby
Hoërskool Garsfontein‘s batsmen got stuck into Hoërskool Framesby‘s bowlers at Kimberley Boys’ High, powering the Pretoria school to 239/5 from their 20 overs.
The lowest score among their top six was 16, and two batsmen contributed fifties. Charl van Staden led the way with a ruthless, unbeaten 80 off only 43 balls, five of which he deposited over the boundary, with another seven struck to the boundary.
Opening batsman, Ruan Cuyler, scored at an even faster rate, bounding to 58 off only 23 balls, while Righardt Joubert smacked 34 off 25, and Riaan Boshoff 24 off 12.
On a very tough day for Framesby’s bowlers, Renquin Goliath stood out, returning 3/38 from four overs.
Chasing a very big target, the Gqeberha school came up well short, finishing on 163/8, leaving Garsies the winner by 76 runs.
Miles Feltham put up a good fight, bashing three sixes and seven fours as he raced to 63. His innings was, however, ended by Wikus du Preez, who brought Feltham’s resistance to an end by running out the opener.
Four others made it into double figures, with Corbin Fleetwood‘s 20 not out off 15 the next best contribution.
Willem Louw led the Garsfontein attack, picking up 2/20 in two overs.
Hoërskool Hans Moore vs Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom
Hoërskool Hans Moore and Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom had the pleasure of facing off on the Diamond Oval. In a tight contest, Hans Moore recorded a hard-fought 10-run victory.
Batting first, they posted 144/7. That total looked unlikely when they slipped to 27/3 in the sixth over, but they clawed their way back into the match with a 71-run fourth-wicket partnership between Stephan Vermaak and Donovan McGiddy, who exited in the 13th over, caught by Handré de Beer off Hanru Combrinck for a run-a-ball 21.
Vermaak went on to top-score with 52 from only 36 balls. His innings included five fours and three sixes, and while he was at the crease, Hans Moore added 101 runs.
Zander Nel bowled a tidy spell, picking up 2/16 in four overs, while Hanru Combrinck captured 2/27 in three.
In reply, Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom was restricted to 134/9.
Juan van Niekerk, with 48 off 43 balls, and Jean Liebenberg, with 32 off 28, gave them hope, but only Riekert Kruger, with 12, joined them in double figures.
Hans Moore’s bowlers also did a good job of limiting boundaries, giving up 10 fours in total. In contrast, their batsmen hit 10 fours and four sixes.
Left-arm spinner, Kearan Weyers, produced a decisive spell for Moories, snaring 3/17 from his four overs, while Tristan Harris struck twice in two overs, which cost him 12 runs, and Kyle Wratten returned 2/21 from four.
One of the big differences in the game was extras, with Volkies giving up 24 and Hans Moore 11.
